The owners of green buildings in Cluj-Napoca will pay only half of the property taxes starting the fiscal year 2013, according to a decision of Cluj county council, announced also by Romanian Green Building Council. The tax incentive is a premiere in the Romanian market and it will apply to buildings which have green certifications LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), and DGNB (the German Sustainable Building Council ). Following the council decision, the incentive is 50 percent reduction of building tax for the property used as residence. “Due to the new European requirements regarding the energy efficiency and renewable energy, many European cities adopted local policies targeting green buildings, mostly in behalf of renovation workings for public buildings,” said Anca Bieru Robinson, manager of international affairs and policies within RoGBC.
